Leslie Chao: Class of 2019
Her Story: I grew up in the Bay Area and went to undergrad at UCSD so I've been a California girl my whole life. I wanted to go to business school school on the East Coast and experience something new and it has been amazing so far. I just had the best first snow day ever! After living in San Diego for 5 years, I moved back to the Bay Area and was working in tech for a while before moving to Thailand to teach English for half a year. I had the best time there and Thailand (and papaya salad) holds a special place in my heart. After moving back to the US, I worked at a non-profit in San Francisco up until I moved to NY to attend Stern!
What advice do you have for women thinking about pursuing business school? Do it! I have already had so many invaluable opportunities and experiences that I would not have been able to have without being in business school. I'm also constantly amazed at how motivated and inspiring my classmates are and it's refreshing to be surrounded by so many like minded people, especially women.
What advice do you have for MBA1s? It's easy to get distracted by what everyone else is doing because there is always so much going on, but pick the activities that you know you're interested in and don't try to do everything. At the same time, if something sounds interesting to you, this is the best time to try it out! There are so many events that you won't get the chance to participate in after school so take advantage!
What is a fun fact about you? I used to dance competitively!
What's your favorite part of being a student at Stern? The friends I have made here and being in NYC! The location can't be beat and I have met the best people
