Brielle Sydor, AVP OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
What do you love about SWIB? As someone who enjoys being part of a team and working toward a common goal, I love having the opportunity to collaborate with other SWIB execs to promote the club’s mission on campus. Playing an active role in driving change and creating opportunities for members – whether it’s via personal, professional, or equality development events – is definitely a highlight in being a part of SWIB.
Favorite SWIB Memory? This Fall, we hosted a book group with Fran Hauser, author of "The Myth of the Nice Girl: Achieving a Career You Love Without Becoming a Person You Hate." After reading the book, SWIB members had the opportunity to attend a roundtable with Fran and ask questions about balancing kindness and ambition in the workplace. I love that we were able to engage with the author on this level and address an issue that so many women face in a professional setting.
Favorite part about Stern: The people! I've met so many incredible classmates and professors who have challenged me to look at the world from a different perspective.
Advice for women considering pursuing business school: If possible, visit the schools you are considering. Being on campus, sitting in on a class, and speaking with current students is the best way to get a sense of the culture at the school. You're investing a significant amount of time and money into an MBA, so it's important to choose the program and community that is the best fit for you.
Fun Fact: I recently completed a 70-mile kayaking trip down the Colorado River!
